Chris在寫真集內記下他對意大利的感覺:

There are times when even a singular man has to break away from the normality of his life. There are times when he needs to follow his heart, fulfill his desires and live his dreams; when he must escape from his corporeal truth, lose himself in sweet reverie, transcend his own spirit and fly to the crepuscular edges of reasonableness, where imagination blends into reality and reality into his heart.

It was dawn. The sun was revealing its first rays. The sky never look more beautiful. Rome was at my feet. A wonderful sense of freedom and excitement engulfed me. I started walking the street, breathing deep the morning fresh air. Closing my eyes, I could hear the faint whisper of the buildings around me sharing the incredible flow of events they witnessed over the centuries. I could feel the cobblestones wabble from the steps of yesteryears. I was transported back through time when Rome's historical treasures were built. I opened my eyes and there it all was -- Rome, of a bygone age, perfectly blended into modern times. The sight was fantastic.

Never had I dare imagine that one day I would be so close to the grand statues and sculptures as to not only examine their fine details but to actually be able to touch and feel them. It is incredible to see the ease by which italians can blend into and be one with their cultural heritage. I truly envy them. And now I understand why italians have such artistic flair. They are born and raised in what has to be one of the most open and accessible culture trove in the world. Viva Roma!

As my three day visit went by, I was struck by the carefree of these very beautiful people. And of course, I was amazed by the grandeur that makes up Rome. Well, it's true, Rome wasn't built in a day -- but it won my heart in far less time.

Then, I moved on to the Renaissance City, Florence, where I did some serious bargaining for leather goods and souvenirs! It was fun! But even more fun was about to come in my next stop, the very beautiful archipelago Venice.

To be honest, I was surprised by the small number of people actually living in Venice although the number of tourists abound. Many of the old buildings are found empty with their doors eroded and broken by the waters. Frozen in time, they stand guard over the canals like eerie haunted houses, looking more like movie facades than the palacial homes and prisons they once were, as though they were put there for the benefits of the tourists.

Everything must change, it's true. There is no exception to the city which has reigned unrivaled in the world's imagination as a symbol of romance since the Middle Ages. However, early time as the sun rises, the allure of the city mutates. The morning mist transforms its complexes and the sunbeams fill it with renewed life and vigour. As the day unfolds, and the deep romantic energy takes possession of my soul, I find myself embracing Venice with all my heart. For she really provides the perfect backdrop for dreamers indulging in reveries of the romantic past.

A holiday might come to an end, but the dreams continue. The imagination provides a place somewhere in time to live our dreams, those dreams that turn our hopes into vibrant realities.

I'm glad that I dreamt.

部份隨筆

There's a place within my heart,
tucked away from all the pain,
And deep within this secret side of me,
Just the simple truth remains.
Words don't come easy,
Feelings I hide from myself,
I'm ready to share without hesitation,
I've been saving the moment
For someone who's saving this moment too
-- Tell me it's you.
While there is time,
Let's go out and feel everything.
If you hold me,
I will let you into my dream.
As I walk this land with broken dreams,
I have visions of many things:
Love's happiness is just an illusion,
Filled with sadness and confusion.
The narrow and the winding ways,
The streets of old Venezia,
The Palace, the canals, the spark,
Il carnevale veneziano,
Masquerades in the dark...
Where the past goes on and on forever,
And I feel it ever present
In every step I take alone
on the streets of old Venezia.
Love is just for fools,
A game of the heart,
When you fall in love,
You play the fool
Right from the start.
There was a time I thought I knew it all --
In matters of the heart.
Now looking back in time I realise --
I'd only made a start.
Can't predict the future,
Can't forget the past,
Feels like any moment
Could be the last.
Dawn awaits a sleepless,
Italian town of coloured grey
Here I roam the streets
without you
As autumn fades away.
Who knows where the road may lead us?
Who knows what the fates may have in store?
Who knows what's been lost along the way?
And who knows if we'll meet along the shore?
Is this love that I'm feeling?
Is this love that's been keeping me up all night?
Is this love that I'm feeling?
Is this love?...
I press my face against the window of my heart.
Starring through the pane my dreams of love
Seen so cold and dark.
I must keep searching just to keep them alive,
'Cause only the strong survive.
I've been a fool,
Talking to myself and no-one else,
I played it cool, so cool that no-one ever understands
Maybe one day someone will come
Maybe someday...
Just a face in the crowd
I'm not strong, I'm not proud,
All I am is just the one you see,
Gonna find someone somehow,
Another face in the crowd,
Out there somewhere,
Looking for somebody, somebody just like me.
Where do we go from here?
I'll stay by your side.
If you choose a diferent path,
We'll say goodbye.
I came from nowhere like this city street,
Everybody's walking to a lonely beat,
I don't know what they're saying
But I know what they mean.
Live every moment, love every day,
'Cause before you know it your precious time
Slips away.
Live every moment, love every day,
'Cause if you don't you might just throw
your love away.
Some people, they know how to play the game of love
Some people, know just who to pray to up above
I know where I'm going, I'm taking it straight to the top
I know where I'm going, I don't see a reason to stop.
I walk in shadows searching for light
Cold and alone, no comfort in sight
Hoping and praying for someone to care
Always moving and going nowhere.
Every dawn of my day my heart is launched
And linked with love to someone on distant shores.
I'm not sure if my heart should be ignored,
I'll follow anything that leads me to your door.
I waste my time waiting for answers
When I could have been taking more chances.
But why should I try? --You'd still pass me by.
A one in a million chance,
You know the moment that you
Cross over the line.
A casual glance and special feelings come alive.
There's romance in the air and
So they say,
Love could be a small cafe away.
For time is a river rolling into nowhere,
We must live while we can,
And we'll drink out cup of laughter,
have our ever after.
